The Mother of the Bride

Well, this is probably going to be a topic of great debate. :)
The mother of the bride.
We’ve all heard the stories about the Mother of the Bride coming in and ruining your day, or demanding you do things your way. I was scared of this, but my fears had no grounding, I think I was lucky lol.
My mum is pure concentrated awesome. She’s pretty much open to any ideas, as long as they aren’t going to upset my grandparents or get us all arrested. She turned her nose up when I mentioned the pink part of the theme, and made it clear that I wasn’t a pink person; but she’s going along with it.
I’ve been told that when you get married your mother is meant to be all fussy and demanding. That it’s meant to be a case that she basically takes control… I found this online -
The mother of the bride is seen as the second most important woman at her daughters wedding. She was traditionally responsible for organising the following:
  • The reception
  • Floral decoration at venue
  • Bridal gown and possibly bridesmaids gowns
  • Photography
  • Bridal transport
  • Wedding cake
  • Music
  • Stationery

This worries me a bit!!
There’s so much on a list like that that I’d want to plan, like oh maybe, the reception and the dress!! Of course, help is always appreaciated, but as my mum says, ladies this is YOUR DAY. No one else but you and the groom should be able to decide or demand anything!! Fair enough, you may have to tune down a couple of things if you don’t want to shock your granny, but other than that, stick with what you want.
I know I want a day that I’m going to enjoy, and that I’m going to remember for the rest of my days. I don’t want to be so stressed out with planning that I blank out all the fun stuff I’ve planned, and my mum encourages me, she’s the one that suggests different finger foods she can make, and that we can string fairylights in the trees and bushes, shes the one who suggests we go and steal the picnic tablets from the local garden centre (which we aren’t doing by the way).
Food for thought for you all :) …
